\"VISA\"<\/a>Visa is a\u00a0satirical play in Punjabi included in the book Dooja Passa<\/em> (The Other Side) published in 1981 by Nanak Singh Pustakmala, Amritsar, India.
\nThe protagonist of the play is a rural Punjabi man and comes to New Delhi to obtain visa for Canada. He is overwhelmed by the traffic, high-rises, fastness, workings of the officials and can\u00a0hardly utter a word as he faces and\u00a0bribes corrupt officials at every step.\u00a0He loses his clothes\u00a0one by one and receives stacks of papers as he\u00a0goes from office to office. At the end when he’s called into the final office to\u00a0pick up his visa the official at the\u00a0door tries to grab his underwear, the only\u00a0piece of\u00a0dress\u00a0he is left with.\u00a0The play lays bear the corruption prevalent in Indian bureaucracy. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cRode has shown us a realistic picture of corruption in this field\u201d \u2013 Ajmer Aulakh<\/strong>, a top Punjabi playwright, in monthly Sirjana<\/em>, 1981<\/span><\/p>\n

Visa was first staged, to a full hall, by IPANA (Indian Peoples Association in North America) in Carpenters Hall, Vancouver, in mid eighties, and was jointly directed by Dr. Hari Sharma and Ajmer Rode. Veteran stage actor Gurcharn Dua played the protagonist. The Play was very successful and was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience. \u00a0\u00a0aGurchan in the Eighties office to obtain a Canadian visa (in India). Visa<\/em> has been staged in Canada and many times in Punjab, India.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
